365 Project: Week 5

Posted by Natalie in photography

5 weeks down, 47 weeks to go!

This week I did my first ‘themed’ 365 project week, it just so happened that on Monday and Tuesday I took photos with trees in them so I decided to carry that on for the rest of the week. It was really fun actually, and it took some of the “what the heck will I photograph today” anxiety away and it became more of a creative question of “how can I photograph a tree today?”

I love the way the trees look so spindly during the London winter so this was a great chance to concentrate on capturing a few of them.

Here’s the 28th January to the 3rd February…

Day 31/365: Another chance encounter with a tree reflection

Just as I was struggling to find an interesting tree to photograph, I stumbled across a mirror still covered in raindrops just sitting at the base of a big tree…I kid you not, this is a 365 project photographers dream! Still don’t have the slightest clue why it was there and it was gone the next day, never to be seen again. This was also the day I forgot my camera and had to shoot with my iPhone so it could have been better, but regardless I just love the story of stumbling across this right in the middle of ‘tree week’.

Day 32/365: An unusual tree trunk

Day 33/365: The view from the train

Day 34/365: The only tree inside our flat – a New Zealand Nikau palm

Happiest with day 30! As you can see I took a handful of photos this week of trees reflected in different surfaces and this is my favourite. To me, the trees really look like roots planting the houseboats into the canal.

In 2013 I’m embarking on a 365 project adventure to improve my photography and document this awesome year, which means committing to take one photo a day, every day. You can start at any time of the year if you want to join in too.

You can see all my 365 photos so far, organised by week, here.
